What are the best books for children? More importantly, what is the best book for YOUR child? The answer is any book that makes your kids fall in love with reading. It doesn’t matter if the book is about trucks, trains, space, dinosaurs, ballerinas, puppies, or bugs; it only matters that your child is eager to read. This makes teaching reading a natural and easy process.
If one book doesn’t call out to your child – find another. Find that book that your child will want to read over and over and over. Find the book that will spark an interest in your children that will cause them to ask for another book and then another.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to find the best children s books. Go to your library; swap books with other families; go to garage sales; check out discount book sellers online; or hunt down your own collection of books from your childhood.
The most important criteria for selecting books for your children are to pick books that are age appropriate and that have stories and pictures that captivate your child. If your child is bored or disinterested; move on. If your child is interested in a particular subject (dinosaurs, trains, history, butterflies, princesses) find a book about that subject. Take a trip to the library and start exploring.
Books that teach a particular lesson in a fun and interesting way are always good choices. There are books that teach about how to be polite, how to treat animals, how to count, how to learn the ABCs, and just about everything else you can think of.
Any parent knows that kids have a million questions about everything. When these questions arise take them to books for answers. Show them that everything they want to know can be found within the pages of a book.
Make books a natural part of your children’s lives; give them access to all kinds of books for all the stages of their development.
